ERIKO’S VOICES
A QUEER ANALYSIS ABOUT KITCHEN
Keywords:
Kitchen, Yoshimoto Banana, Queer theory, TranssexualityAbstract
The purpose of this article is to analyze, based on queer theories, the possible readings on the character Eriko, from the novel Kitchen, written by Yoshimoto Banana and published on the national market in 1995. In direct dialogue with the British-Australian researcher Sara Ahmed, the work will bring debates about the aspects of violence against transsexuals in the literature, as well as the queer community in general, the neglect of the mourning faced by the community, the composition of the family and the fight against the straight, cis-normative traditions perpetuated in the Japanese and global lifestyle. As a vehicle, through Eriko, we propose to read the voices between the fictional character and the real-world Erikos and how to find hope in these journeys.
