CASE STUDY OF A JAPANESE DESCENDANT FAMILY LIVING IN PELOTAS, RIO GRANDE DO SUL

This article aims to analyze some ideologies and linguistic policies adopted by a family of Japanese descendants living in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. First, some aspects of Japanese immigration in this country and the condition of immigrants in the early 20th century will be introduced. Then, the theoretical contribution on which the investigation is based will be presented and, finally, the analysis of the data obtained from semi-structured interviews with the family will be made.
