Abstract

This article covers a historical contextualization of fascist policies that were based in the world in the middle of the 20th century and its projection in the Portuguese context with the New State of Salazar. Following this historical dating, we think of the novel O Delfim, by José Cardoso Pires, as a primordial work of postmodernist formats that addresses some of the outstanding elements of the Salazar dictatorship. The questions of power of the Portuguese totalitarian regime are then unfolded in the Cardoso Pires novel, taking into account the construction of the literary text as a process of discursive strategy that is rethought in its own making. In other words, when thematizing aspects of the real, the author of O Delfim makes use of metafictional elements to denounce the construct of the text and official speeches.
