This paper examines Itamar Vieira Junior's novel Torto Arado, exploring how the work challenges the Brazilian literary canon by expanding the representation of marginalized voices. Published in 2018, the book portrays the lives of sisters Bibiana and Belonísia in rural Bahia, addressing themes such as identity, collective memory, and inequality. Belonísia's loss of her tongue emerges as a symbolic event reflecting the subordination and marginalization faced by Black women in Brazil. The study contextualizes the Brazilian literary canon, historically dominated by Eurocentric perspectives, and discusses how works like Torto Arado contribute to the reconstruction and diversification of this canon, promoting a more inclusive and representative literary narrative.Downloads
