“A MEMÓRIA DAS MÃOS”: FIGURATIONS OF THE FEMININE IN PENELOPE IN THE LIRIC OF MÔNICA DE AQUINO (OR UNWEAVING THE ROUTE)

Abstract

The present article has as theme some figurations of the feminine in the classic character Penelope in the lyric of Mônica de Aquino in the section “A memória das mãos”, of her work Fundo falso (2018). The work also investigated and discussed the rescue of the archetype of the spinning makers concerning to the image of the classic character recaptured, as well as it analyzed the poetics configurations, especially the construction of the metaphor and its meanings in the architectural of the poems of the referred section. Therefore, we were supported by different perspectives of theorical basis: studies of the poetry (Paz, 1982; Pignarari, 2005; Cohen, 1974; Bloom, 2002); mythology and the construction of the western imaginary (Brandão, 2014; Jeager, 2013); theory of the archetype and especially the one of the spinning makers (Neto, 2018; Liborel, 1997; Mielietinski, 1987; 1998). The analysis corroborated the poet approaches the canon from who it is originated the character, the Odyssey of Homer, as it recovers the essential traits of that feminine, but she transgresses the classic image when adding characteristics resulted of the threads of the feminine authorship and of the contemporary critics. In Aquino’s lirics, the image of Penelope unfold itself as a feminine open to the manifestation of its own subjectivity and desires. In view of that, it was also verified that Mônica de Aquino, as a contemporary poet who uses the canon in her poetry, is included in what Bloom (2002) denominates as Tessera or Completeness and Antithesis in his theory about the anxiety of the influence, and she revisions the myth as demonstrates Ostricker (2022) regarding a writing more gynocentric.
