Abstract

The Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP) is an autoimmune syndrome that targets the myelin sheath of the peripheral nervous system, usually symmetrical, with progressive weakness in the lower and upper limbs. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of physical therapy in the gain muscle strength through a case report of a patient diagnosed with CIDP admitted to the University Hospital Getulio Vargas. The physiotherapy sessions were held five (5) times a week, lasting 45 minutes, for four (4) months performing kinesiotherapy (passive, active - assisted, active) and techniques of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF). At the end of the rehabilitation treatment plan has been a greater degree (3) in muscle strength in the lower limbs, especially in the extensor muscles and hip flexor, demonstrating. It follows that a physical therapy program involving the techniques of kinesitherapy and PNF can lead to a gain and maintenance of muscular strength.
