Abstract

Objective: To analyze the post-operative evolution in the intra-hospital phase and the impact on the prognosis of pediatric patients with congenital heart disease who underwent surgical correction. Methods: It was performed a retrospective, analytical and cross-sectional study of post-operative evolution in-hospital phase (up to 30 days post-operatively) of patients who underwent surgical correction by a single cardiovascular surgery team from the Beneficente Portugues Hospital on Manaus -Am from 2 February 2006 to 29 February 2012. Results: Among the seventy-eight patients analyzed, 57.69% were female, 48.65% were in school age (> 6 to 12 years old), 84.44% of the heart diseases were acyanogenic, and most of them were part of the risk category 1 (47.44%) and 2 (39.74%). Conclusion: The study shows that in the institution there is a higher incidence of surgical correction in patients in a larger age range, pre-school to adolescence, with less complex heart diseases, coinciding with the number of deaths found, 6,4% deaths (n=5).
