"THREE RACES" AND A BOI-BUMBÁ FOR TWO: REFLECTIONS ABOUT THE NEED OF THE PROTAGONISM OF AFRO-BRAZILIAN CULTURE IN THE FOLKLORIC FESTIVAL OF PARINTINS

Abstract: The article aims to discuss the absence of black protagonism in the Folklore Festival of Parintins, despite Brazil being the country of the supposed "racial democracy". For that, a discussion about the black invisibility in the Amazon and, consequently, in the popular celebration is outlined, through bibliographic review. The following is an explanation of the importance of popular culture as an educational tool and its power to give visibility to historically excluded populations, such as the black population. Between doing and not doing, it is positioned here by the first option, finalizing the discussion with some possibilities for the Festival. This path has led to the conclusion that the “parintinense folguedo” (Parintins Festival) has a significant role, as it is the largest in the North and because of its use in different media, to make the rich Afro-Brazilian culture visible, giving prominence to this discussion in its three nights of celebration. After all, as a popular culture, its power of dialogue with the people is immeasurable.
