MEDICINA TRADICIONAL INDÍGENA NA AMAZÔNIA BRASILEIRA: UMA INTERVENÇÃO EM SAÚDE

Resumo

Trata-se de um relato de experiência sobre uma intervenção em saúde junto às etnias Macuxi e Wapichana de Roraima, enfatizando-se a representação do itinerário terapêutico destes indígenas, tendo como base teórica estudos de saúde indígena, antropologia e psicologia. Essa intervenção deu-se no âmbito da capacitação de agentes indígenas de saúde (AIS). Ao se avaliar a medicina tradicional adotada por esses povos, percebe-se que os AIS entrevistados no decorrer da intervenção concordam em suas representações sobre o comportamento frente à procura de tratamento e os modos de adoecimento e tratamentos tradicionais. O itinerário terapêutico quanto à procura de tratamento orienta-se pela apresentação da doença e severidade dos sintomas. A resolução das doenças é partilhada no seio da família. Em casos de enfermidades reconhecidas como doença indígena, não resolvidas pela medicina cientifica, o pajé é convocado a executar um ritual de cura xamânica no intuito de reintegrar o indivíduo ao ambiente sociocultural.

    INDIGENOUS TRADITIONAL MEDICINE IN BRAZILIAN AMAZON: A HEALTH INTERVENTION

Abstract: This is an experience report about a health intervention with the Macuxi and Wapichana ethnic groups from Roraima, emphasizing the representation of the therapeutic itinerary of these indigenous people, based on indigenous health studies, anthropology and psychology. This intervention took place within the scope of training of indigenous health agents (AIS). When evaluating the traditional medicine adopted by these peoples, it is clear that the AIS interviewed during the intervention agree in their representations about the behavior in search of treatment and the modes of illness and traditional treatments. The therapeutic itinerary for seeking treatment is guided by the presentation of the disease and severity of symptoms. Disease resolution is shared within the family. In cases of diseases recognized as indigenous disease, not resolved by scientific medicine, the shaman is called upon to perform a shamanic healing ritual in order to reintegrate the individual into the sociocultural environment.
