Based on the theoretical principles of Carl Rogers, the study discusses how self-construction occurs through the individual’s interactions with their environment and how the introjection of external values can generate incongruences that hinder personal development. The narrative text explores the importance of the therapeutic relationship in deconstructing limiting patterns, highlighting the role of empathic listening, unconditional positive regard, and congruence in facilitating personal growth. In conclusion, the article reinforces the need for a welcoming therapeutic space that allows individuals to reconstruct their identity in an authentic and integrated manner, promoting greater autonomy and psychological well-being.
2025-06-26T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 //periodicos.ufam.edu.br/index.php/amazonica/article/view/18168The Process of Reorganization of Self-Concept in Adults and the Crossings Generated from the Therapeutic Relationship:2025-06-21T12:50:55+00:00Ana Karla Silva Duarteanakarlasilvapsi@gmail.comFelipe Saraiva Nunes de Pinhofelipesnpinho@gmail.comWaleska Karla Ramos de Macêdowaleskaramosmacedo@gmail.com
The present study discusses the reorganization process of self-concept in adults within the context of psychological clinical practice. The aim is to deepen understanding of the subjective and professional experience of the psychotherapist as a facilitator in this process through the therapeutic relationship established with the client. Therefore, a qualitative approach and the method of experiential reporting were chosen, considering that the investigated context relates to the researcher's supervised internship experience. The practice took place at an Integrated Psychology Service in Fortaleza, during the 8th to 10th semesters of the Psychology course. The researcher engaged in individual psychotherapy with adults, grounded in the Person-Centered Approach (PCA). Through the achieved results and their discussion, it was possible to comprehend how the reorganization of self-concept can occur in the clinical context with adults. The provision of facilitating conditions and the establishment of a good therapeutic relationship were identified as central to this process. In addition, it was possible to conclude that the fact that the psychotherapist allows herself to be affected by the client's experience is positive, but it is essential that she bases her practice on supervision, on her own personal psychotherapy and on a continuous training process. Finally, two proposals for future studies were suggested, focusing on investigating the phenomenon of self-concept reorganization from the client's perspective, as the current study is based on the psychotherapist's observations and perceptions.
2025-06-26T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 //periodicos.ufam.edu.br/index.php/amazonica/article/view/18169The Psychic Life in the Context of Postmodernity:2025-06-21T13:02:09+00:00Erinaldo Domingos Alveserinaldoalves@professor.uniateneu.edu.brMaria Lúcia Magalhães Bosimalubosi@ufc.br
This theoretical essay outlines a critical path around psychiatry and late capitalism in the 20th and early 21st centuries, aiming to question whether there is a device implanted by capitalism within psychiatric discourse that exposes—or leads us to consider—the existence of a neoliberal project in the field of mental health, oriented toward profit, or whether the place of this device is empty and merely the result of coincidence. To that end, we briefly revisit the history of the editions of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), including its break from the theoretical foundations of psychoanalysis, its transformation into an atheoretical and descriptive manual, and the growing number of cataloged nosological entities. From this historical perspective, we argue that there is a possible articulation between the successive editions of the DSM and the simultaneous rise of late capitalism and/or neoliberalism. To construct a critical examination of this context, we draw on authors who help us think through these processes, such as Jacques-Alain Miller, Jean-Claude Milner, Christian Dunker, Élisabeth Roudinesco, Jonathan Crary, and Bruce Fink. At the conclusion of this essay, we choose to leave the initial question open, inviting the reader to assign the meaning that seems most coherent with the discussions raised here.
2025-06-26T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 //periodicos.ufam.edu.br/index.php/amazonica/article/view/18178The Contributions of Merleau Ponty's notion of Body for the experience of the use and abuse of Chemical Substances2025-06-21T15:56:46+00:00Sofia Cruz Mendes de Abreupsi.sofia.abreu@gmail.comJuliana Lima de Araújojulianalima@unifor.br
Chemical substances are a historical theme of humanity and increasingly contemporary, and Merleau Ponty's lens is to understand this use and abuse of substances globally. This research aims to make connections with Merleau Ponty's notion of the body and the experience of using chemical substances. The work is qualitative in nature, typified as exploratory and methodologically structured as a bibliographical research and aims to understand the field of chemical dependencies in contemporary times, from the perspective of Merleau-Ponty's existential Phenomenology. To this end, an exploratory bibliographical research was carried out searching for relevant texts for the theoretical support of the study and related to Merleau-Ponty's assumptions through his phenomenological perspective, offering valuable guidance for therapists and contributing to the development of clinical psychology as a discipline. It is concluded that the conception of the body, as discussed by Merleau-Ponty, offers a valuable perspective on how individuals relate to the consumption of chemical substances, making it necessary to explore the subjective life, historicity and possibilities of existence of the subject, who is not only influenced by the world around him, but also constitutes it, thus making the problem of the abusive use of chemical substances not only an individual phenomenon, but a social and political one in society.
2025-06-26T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 //periodicos.ufam.edu.br/index.php/amazonica/article/view/18182The Experience of Recovery of Adolescents with Eating Disorders2025-06-21T19:04:12+00:00Sofia Cruz Mendes de Abreupsi.sofia.abreu@gmail.comLara Maria Dias da Silvapsilaramariadias@gmail.comFrancisco Luan de Souza Carvalholuan-smsb@hotmail.comLucas Guimarães Blocblocpsi@unifor.br
This study seeks to understand the recovery experience of female adolescents with eating disorders, emphasizing interdisciplinarity in care. Using a qualitative approach, phenomenological interviews pwere conducted with seven adolescents undergoing treatment at the Interdisciplinary Nutrition Program for Eating Disorders and Obesity (PRONUTRA). The analysis of the reports, based on Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), revealed three main categories: (1) Feelings and relapses, evidencing the emotional complexity and non-linearity of the recovery process; (2) The pillars of care, highlighting the importance of the interdisciplinary team and the construction of therapeutic bonds; and (3) Influence of the institution, showing how the institutional environment can positively or negatively impact the recovery experience. The results indicate that recovery transcends symptomatic remission, involving subjective, social, and institutional aspects. The study reinforces the need for approaches that integrate the social context and the experiences of adolescents, promoting sensitive and effective care. It is concluded that recovery from eating disorders requires strategies that go beyond mere dietary normalization, valuing the redefinition of the experience and the construction of support networks.
2025-06-26T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 //periodicos.ufam.edu.br/index.php/amazonica/article/view/18183The Experience of the Hospital Psychologist in the Oncological Context2025-06-21T19:14:54+00:00Angela Patricia da Silva Rodriguesangelapatriciarodrigues@gmail.comVictor Daniel Harugi Alves do Carmovictorharugi0@gmail.comSidney Queiroz Limasindeyfacul@gmail.com
The work of hospital psychologists in oncology units presents specific challenges that require technical knowledge, sensitivity, and empathy. In this context, medicalization appears to gain prominence, as society increasingly places its hopes in miraculous substances or in practices that frame life as pathological, presenting them as true solutions for pain and suffering. This bibliographic research is based on a theoretical qualitative study, conducted through an integrative review of articles from the platforms Google Scholar and SciELO, aiming to generate discussions and reflections on the processes that underpin this phenomenon in youth, including consumerism, immediacy, and productivity. The findings reveal a growing trivialization of medicalization, leading to the neglect of a critical social perspective on emotions and real life. It is a critical literature review based on empirical studies published in the last five years, with a qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory approach. The findings indicate that ableism infantilizes and delegitimizes the affective and sexual needs of autistic individuals, reinforcing their social invisibility, hindering access to adequate sex education, and contributing to inappropriate behaviors stemming from a lack of information. These factors directly affect the formation of emotional bonds and expose these individuals to increased vulnerability in situations of risk and sexual violence. The analysis also highlighted the diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities within the spectrum, which are often silenced by normative and exclusionary discourses. A predominance of international studies was observed, revealing a lack of national research on the topic. In light of this, the importance of conducting investigations in the Brazilian context is emphasized, considering cultural and social aspects in order to support inclusive public policies and ensure the affective and sexual rights of individuals with ASD.

2025-06-26T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 //periodicos.ufam.edu.br/index.php/amazonica/article/view/18186Beyond the PCA: 2025-06-21T20:00:51+00:00Lucas Oliveira Rodrigues da Silva Oliveira Rodrigues da Silvapsicologo.lucasrodrigues@gmail.comAna Rosa Rebelo Ferreira de Carvalho Rebelo Ferreira de Carvalhoanarosa@ccs.uespi.brÂngela Sousa de Carvalhoangelasousa@ccs.uespi.brFrancisco Luan de Souza Carvalholuan-smsb@hotmail.com
This work focuses on the dynamics and interventions involved in the Psychological Duty Care model, which is a form of psychological assistance based on Psychological Counseling and the Person-Centered Approach (PCA), and aims to provide immediate support to those seeking help. Qualitative research was adopted as the methodology, using documentary analysis of the film Wit – Uma Lição de Vida and bibliographic research. The discussion highlights the importance of care relationships with patients, which function as promoters of mental health and humanization, significantly influencing the way individuals deal with suffering and face the experience of illness. Psychology, in this context, assumes a central role. The objective of this theoretical study is to shed light on the analysis of the trans experience under the lens of Phenomenological-Existential Psychology, which reveals itself to be a rich path for understanding the search for identity. This approach not only illuminates the particularities of the trans experience, but also broadens the horizon of psychology by emphasizing the need for an empathetic and inclusive perspective. This essay is a qualitative approach, focusing on literature review, using bibliographic research as a methodological resource.. Throughout the study, it was possible to observe that the pain and suffering, often associated with the transition process, cannot be reduced to mere symptoms of gender dysphoria. Instead, the trans experience is presented as a path of self-discovery, where each narrative is worthy of recognition and respect. By adopting the phenomenological-existential perspective, psychology professionals must facilitate the exploration of the authentic self, creating a safe space that allows the client to experience their identity in a comprehensive and non-fragmented way. Empathetic listening and validation of experiences become fundamental practices, since they contribute to the construction of a more positive and strengthened self-image. In short, the interaction between Phenomenological-Existential Psychology and the trans experience fosters a deeper understanding of the human being in its entirety, allowing the particularities of each life story to be not only accepted, but valued. This symbiotic relationship can transform psychological practice, subverting prejudices and establishing new forms of care and acceptance. The challenge is to continue to deepen research and practice at this intersection, always promoting a perspective that respects the uniqueness of stories and the complexities of gender identities, in a world that, although evolving, still lacks spaces of respect and dignity for all forms of being.
2025-06-26T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 //periodicos.ufam.edu.br/index.php/amazonica/article/view/18192The importance of needs assessment in social intervention from an existential-humanistic psychology perspective.2025-06-22T00:25:52+00:00Eduardo Ismael Ruíz López Ruíz Lópezeduardo.ruiz@iztacala.unam.mxAngel Corchado Vargasangel.corchado@iztacala.unam.mx
The social field from humanist existential psychology is in charge of approaching, understanding and intervening in a social group or community, attending to individual and group needs under the premises of the approach; maintain empathy to understand the subjective experiences of otherness; not prosecute the behavior of the person or groups and; Be aware of the experiential process. Under these premises, it is possible to approach the realities of each environment phenomenologically and identify its requirements, to later design and apply the intervention strategy that adjusts to these needs, focusing on the potentialization of the person's capacities individually, and their relationship with their groups (family, work, academic, friendship, among others). Within these strategies are psychological accompaniment, interviews, the community forum, the study of the population, field research, social indicators and discussion and reflection groups. It is concluded that, thanks to the community social intervention from this approach, it is possible to make adaptations to the realities of the people, and thus, generate spaces of greater well-being and quality of life. This entry requires the student to adapt to new demands, challenges, standards and the construction of new interpersonal relationships. However, this adaptation can be dysfunctional in certain students and, consequently, have repercussions on their academic performance and mental health. This study assessed the academic adaptation of incoming students at a Mozambican public university. Data collection took place in September 2022 through the Academic Adaptation Questionnaire and sociodemographic data. A total of 113 students participated, mostly female (62.8%), from four in-person undergraduate courses and aged between 17 and 48 years. Descriptive and variance analyses (ANOVA) were performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software. The results indicated a satisfactory level of academic adaptation (M = 3.7; SD = 0.43). The freshmen were more adapted to the study (M = 4.07; SD = 0.62) and to the institution (M = 4.01; SD = 0.63), followed by their career plan (M = 3.83; SD = 0.43) and personal/emotional (M = 3.56; SD = 0.82). However, they demonstrated difficulties in social adaptation (M = 2.98; SD = 1.10). In the analysis of variance, differences were found in the means in the dimensions of academic adaptation in the variables gender, age, course, marital status and class shift. The current situation challenges creative problem-solving in the most varied contexts, including that of Education. One of the dimensions that constitutes and predicts creativity is a set of characteristics that constitute the creative personality. Knowing, identifying and promoting such characteristics then become relevant guidelines in the educational daylife. In addition to presenting a theoretical framework for the concept of creative personality, this paper specifies the most consensual characteristics that constitute it and illustrates them based on expressions or phrases mentioned by recognized creative Portuguese professionals. It also discusses the importance of assessing these characteristics in individuals in general and their intentional development in formal or informal educational contexts. This study, through a narrative review of non-systematic literature, aimed to address the issue of bullying and relate it to the areas of psychology, school/educational psychology, and mental health, highlighting its consequences for children and adolescents' mental health, in addition to reflecting on the practice of school psychology professionals related to the prevention and confrontation of bullying. It is known that the psychologist in the school context must have, among other attributions, the work with inclusion and overcoming violence in the educational environment. Therefore, this review did not use systematic criteria from the literature in its analysis. However, studies have shown that bullying negatively affects students' mental health, as it can cause learning difficulties, increased anxiety, low self-esteem, problems with socialization, school phobia, school dropout, depression and even suicide, if there is no preventive and assistance work related to it.
2025-06-26T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 //periodicos.ufam.edu.br/index.php/amazonica/article/view/18203Knowledge and practices:2025-06-22T15:17:03+00:00Maria Juciana Pereira de Oliveira Gomesjuciana.biologia@gmail.comFelipe Augusto Marques de Freitasfelipe.freias01@gmail.comKyteria Sabina Lopes de Figueredokyteria.figueredo@ufersa.edu.br
This article presents reflections on the knowledge and practices of basic education teachers, highlighting the challenges and opportunities for the advancement of Environmental Education (EE) in an interdisciplinary approach. It aims to investigate the aspects that hinder the work of EE in municipal and state schools in the municipality of Tenente Ananias (RN), from the perception of teachers. From a quali-quantitative approach, data were obtained from a semi-structured questionnaire containing 18 questions. Through the analysis of the results, it was noticed that the teachers are aware of the importance of working with EE in basic training, however, because it is an optional theme, it is little worked in the region, considering that this is not part of the curriculum, being worked on in an interdisciplinary way. In addition to the fact that professionals have difficulty developing practices in this related area, due to lack of training/training, and planning evidenced from the research data, these limitations are reflected in their pedagogical practices, also caused by an excessive workload. In view of this, the teaching profession is understood as an area of arduous action, in which professionals need to overcome themselves every day to deal with the obstacles that society presents to us. Thus, in order to work with EE, it is necessary to break with these paradigms, in order to achieve success in the training process and play a transforming role, capable of developing sustainable practices for possible environmental problems that the contemporary world presents.
2025-06-26T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 //periodicos.ufam.edu.br/index.php/amazonica/article/view/18208Mental health and education in the contemporary context: 2025-06-23T17:57:32+00:00Cecília Creuza Melo Lisboa Holandaclisboa@uea.edu.brSuely Aparecida do Nascimento Mascarenhassuelyanm@ufam.edu.br
This article analyzes the representations of the concepts of health and mental health, with the aim of investigating the convergences between the fields, and identifying how mental health promotion occurs in universities, highlighting meanings and practices that permeate the debate. In the vast majority of cases, educational systems are subject to a set of tensions and challenges that create dichotomies and knowledge based on disciplinarity, imposing ways of teaching and disseminating knowledge. Understanding how bodies are racialized and the complex processes that lead to this social construction is essential to unraveling the intricate webs of power that, in a very discreet way, shape both individual and collective experiences in various parts of the world. This work seeks to explore the paradigms that sustain prejudices and discrimination of a racial nature, shedding light on the need to recognize and confront the structures that perpetuate inequalities in a systemic and insidious way. This is a qualitative research, using literature review as a method. The following are presented: contextualization and importance of the topic, theoretical foundations, key concepts in racial studies, body and identity, social construction of race, racial paradigms, race as a social construction, prejudices and stereotypes, origins and manifestations of racial prejudice, racial discrimination, forms of racial discrimination in the contemporary context, structural racism, definition and characteristics of structural racism, psychosocial impacts, consequences of racial discrimination on mental health, resistance and activism, anti-racist movements and their strategies. The article begins with the historical and political panorama of the inclusion of Art in the school curriculum, highlighting the impacts of the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) on this process. It then analyzes pedagogical practices that favor student protagonism, the collective construction of knowledge and the development of aesthetic sensitivity, with emphasis on project-based learning. This research also explores the role of cultural institutions, such as museums, in expanding students' repertoire, advocating a rapprochement between school culture and contemporary artistic culture. The importance of digital inclusion and accessibility in teaching practices is discussed as a central element for the democratization of access to Art. Finally, it is argued that the teaching of Art, when based on a critical, interdisciplinary and inclusive approach, contributes to the integral formation of the student, promoting not only technical skills, but also the development of ethical, social and cultural values.
2025-06-26T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 //periodicos.ufam.edu.br/index.php/amazonica/article/view/18246The guiding function of the university and factors intervening in academic performance in higher education in Amazonas (Brazil)2025-06-26T02:49:34+00:00Zilmar da Cunha Galdinozilmargaldino@ufam.com.brSuely A. do N. To achieve the proposed objective, we used empirical data from research carried out at the laboratory of psychopedagogical, educational, historical, cultural and social assessment of the amazon - LAPESAM, in reports from the institutional program of scientific initiation scholarships - PIBIC and a master's dissertation (GALDINO, 2013) and in authors who support the theme. It explores how national culture is shaped by the coexistence of multiple “Brazils,” which refer to regional, popular, and ethnic cultural expressions that include indigenous peoples, processes of colonization, and migratory movements that have coexisted, shaped, and continue to shape diverse identities in the same territory. Education, health, and public policies are analyzed as fundamental fields for recognizing and valuing this diversity. The text also discusses the impact of recent migrations, with an emphasis on Haitians and Venezuelans, which have contributed to new cultural dynamics and required more effective institutional responses. In addition, art is treated as an instrument of resistance, belonging, and social transformation, reflecting the challenges of democratizing cultural access and promoting genuine multiculturalism. It is recognized that Brazilian culture is not homogeneous, but multidimensional, requiring inclusive policies, critical education and institutional commitment so that diversity is not only tolerated, but valued as a right. In clinical or therapeutic contexts, this pact can manifest itself as a significant obstacle to communication and mutual understanding, resulting in a space where the subject's emotions and experiences remain inarticulate. Phenomenological-existential psychology, in turn, emphasizes the importance of the lived context and personal stories in the formation of identity. It is a theoretical, qualitative perspective that is embodied in the possibility of understanding the various dimensions present in the experience of silencing present in the therapeutic relationship and the importance of the phenomenological-existential perspective in understanding what is present there. The discourse surrounding the "Pact of Silence" reinforces the importance of embracing existential dilemmas in psychological practice. It recognizes silence as a powerful instrument that reflects the struggle for identity, meaning, and connection in an often chaotic world. In this way, fostering awareness of the complexities surrounding silence in therapeutic settings not only enhances understanding of clients’ lived experiences, but also enriches the therapeutic relationship itself. Through this lens, silence transforms from a barrier to a catalyst for growth, guiding individuals toward greater understanding of themselves and their place in the world. Mindfully engaging with silence can ultimately lead to a deeper experience of existence, where clients learn to articulate their truths and reclaim their voices in the narratives of their lives.
2025-06-26T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 //periodicos.ufam.edu.br/index.php/amazonica/article/view/18251Sumário2025-06-26T04:13:34+00:00Corpo Editorialewertonhelder@ufam.edu.br
Sumário, apresentação, ficha catalográfica
2025-06-26T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025
